The Basmati grain is unique in that it expands more than twice its dry length during cooking. Unlike other types of rice, the grains only expand lengthways, which allows them to retain their characteristic length and slenderness when cooked.

Basmati has good digestive health and helps to control constipation. It is good for diabetes thereby decreasing the spike level of blood sugar level. It helps to prevent chronic disease and might have a slow release of energy as it has lower fiber than sona masoori rice.

Basmati rice is a type of long-grain rice, and the starch granules contain a large proportion of a starch molecule called amylose (basmati and jasmine rice have about 73% amylose) and a smaller quantity of another type of starch called amylopectin.
